The best time to buy a house can vary based on your goals and location. In general, nationwide peak home buying season is during spring months. Due to the large number of people relocating to metro Atlanta, we often see greater inventory and a longer home buying season, often lasting from February through June. However, there is more to consider.
If you are looking for a bigger selection of homes, often the months of March, April and May are your best bet. More people list their homes during early spring than any other time of the year. Keep in mind that new listings may also come with a higher expected price, so looking at homes that have been on the market a bit longer may be more appealing financially.
If price is more important, then you may find lower prices during winter months or hot summer months. During these months the inventory is usually lower but there are also fewer buyers. Sellers are often more motivated to offer lower prices during the months of October, November, December and January. July and August can also be good months to find lower prices as more people are enjoying their summer vacations and waiting for the Georgia heat to give way to fall.
